about

“We’re inconvenient but that’s just who we are.”
A nostalgic paean for the messy friendships of young adulthood.
There’s a certain way friends show up for each other in their early 20s. It’s sweet and it’s sloppy, it’s us validating each other’s questionable choices while we’re all figuring out who we are. In bar bathrooms and passenger seats, in impractical shoes and really short skirts, through lackluster relationships we rounded up to great loves, this song is about the close friend who supports you through break-ups and fuck-ups when you’re both still kind of messy humans.
“I see this as a sequel to our song “Young Fools”, following those friends into their next chapter.” -Malachi

lyrics

You know what they say about old habits
I’m dying hard to meet you at the bar
I wore the wrong shoes, you wore the wrong jacket
We’re inconvenient but that’s just who we are
Shoulda known when the summer’s so mild
A wicked winter’s just around the bend and then
I’ll be out drinking with my heartbroken friend
I tried to like
I tried to like your boyfriend.
So I’m buying the drinks, we’ll cry in the bathroom
Til we’re laughing in your driveway in the car
You know what I say: the best tastes are acquired
We’re inconvenient but that’s just who we are
