Recovering perfectionist embraces the catharsis of the misstep in this epic release.
In one of Small Million’s most personal tracks, vocalist Malachi Graham cops to her perfectionist and codependent tendencies, and considers eschewing rigidity in favor of a new path forward: being willing to be messy, difficult, irrational, hungry, and wrong. Be Wrong explores the cathartic power of letting yourself lose control and pursue your own ease and intuition rather than trying to fix other people.
“I’ve spent much of my life as a cerebral perfectionist, without a meaningful relationship with my own body. A journey with chronic pain led me to embrace that I have more forms of wisdom available to me than just my intellect… my voice apparently doesn’t just tumble out of my brain onto a record. It’s the intersection of my breath and my vocal cords and my belief systems and my diaphragm and my lungs and my lyrical turns of phrase and the whole resonant chamber of my body. It’s a somatic and intellectual collaboration. I’m one whole being, I just need to remember to listen to all of myself, and that can feel very messy and uncontrolled and scary when you’re used to thinking of yourself as a brain with a mouth.” -Malachi
